日本近代洋画の開拓者でもあり到達点ともなった浅井忠は、油彩、水彩、晩年の各種意匠に至るまで、清澄で品格のある作品を多く残しました。東アジアにおいて最も早く、バルビゾン的表現を通じて土着風土を描きだした一人であり、その技術と格調の高さは以後の指標であり続けました。 今回の展示では浅井忠の水彩画を中心に、浅井の従弟である都鳥英喜と、京都工芸高等学校で浅井の指導を受けた間部時雄らの油彩画や、黒田清輝、鹿子木孟郎、梅原龍三郎、安井曽太郎らの作品を展示します。

Asai Chu was an artist of the Meiji era who pioneered and moderated the development of the yoga (Western-style) painting movement in Japan.
This exhibition features a number of paintings by Asai that are permeated with a calm and relaxing clarity together with works by other Japanese artists who lived and worked during the same period.
