ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA 2024 -Deceased masters from Kyushu and contemporary artists-

We will exhibit at Art Fair Asia Fukuoka 2024.
We are pleased to present rare works by the leading modern masters of Western-style painting in Fukuoka and Kyushu.
In addition, Keiki Yamada and Yukyo Yamamoto, who are still active in the field, will also exhibit homage works created in their honor.

Keiki Yamada - Japanese people Painting in Oil -

In the history of oil painting, the works left behind by painters from Kyushu are of great significance. Their works show the next generation of “Western-style painting by the Japanese.”
Eiichiro Matsumoto, whom I studied at university, is also a major presence in my life. I fell in love with the space he painted and moved by his way of life.
The method of learning Western painting and then further interpreting it as a Japanese to answer the question remains strong today.

For this exhibition, I painted two new works. “Prayer for Resurrection” and “Even predecessors learned from goldfish.”

When I study Western painting, I always wonder what kind of food they eat to be able to paint like this. But at the same time, I also think, “After all, they are just human beings. If they can do it, I can do it.”
Salt, indispensable for life, is sacred and neutral wherever it is found. I painted it as a model that allowed me to concentrate only on the construction of the painting without getting caught up in anything. This salt is a symbol of the Japanese mind, and the mountain is the motif of this work.

Henri Matisse exists beyond who is good or great among Western painters. What he has shown to the world of painting is tremendous.
Among his many masterpieces, I believe that “The Gold Fish” has given the world tremendous power.

Yukyo Yamamoto – Face to Face –

The collection titled “Face to face” features portraits of painters associated with Kyushu and the female figures painted by them in coin frottage.

The majority of the figures depicted in the paintings are women. On the other hand, most of the painters are men. Women are painted and men paint. Such a composition seems somewhat biased.

On the other hand, even in the case of portraits that everyone knows, it is difficult to imagine the face of the artist. The relationship between the woman who is painted and the man who paints may be reversing its leadership as time goes by.

The works are titled “Artist of 1080 yen” and “Woman of 1080 yen,” and are painted with the same number of one yen coins. In other words, they are all of equal value.
We hope that everyone will be able to come face to face with them at the exhibition.
